Abstract

Abstract. This study examines the importance of terminological consistency and accuracy in the English-Uzbek translation of formal texts, with particular attention to legal, administrative, diplomatic, and institutional documents. Accurate and consistent terminology is essential for preserving the semantic integrity, legal validity, and communicative effectiveness of translated texts. The research investigates the linguistic and practical challenges translators encounter when rendering specialized terms between English and Uzbek, including lexical ambiguity, cultural differences, the absence of standardized equivalents, and inconsistencies in institutional terminology. A qualitative comparative analysis is conducted using authentic bilingual documents and official translations to identify common terminological issues and evaluate translation strategies. The findings demonstrate that the consistent use of standardized terminology enhances translation quality, reduces the risk of misinterpretation, and improves intercultural communication in formal settings. The study concludes that terminological databases, official glossaries, and subject-specific translation competence play a crucial role in ensuring reliable English-Uzbek formal translation. The research contributes to the development of translation studies by highlighting the significance of terminology management in professional translation practice.
