Abstract

Abstract: This article explores the vibrant intellectual flowering that took place in the regions of Mavarunnahr (Transoxiana) and Khurasan during the 9th to 12th centuries, often regarded as an Eastern Renaissance. It examines the context and significance of this renaissance, and then provides concise portraits of thirteen major scholars - from mathematicians and philosophers to poets and linguists - who left enduring legacies. The study highlights how this period fostered cross-cultural transmission, the melding of Greek, Persian, Indian and Arabic traditions, and the preparation of knowledge that would later reach Europe and the wider Islamic world. The conclusion reflects on why this heritage remains relevant today for understanding scientific, philosophical and cultural development.
