Abstract

Annotation: This article examines how feature films can be used to support the development of sociolinguistic competence in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. Being able to communicate effectively is not only about grammar and vocabulary, but also about understanding how language changes depending on social context, relationships, and cultural norms. Feature films offer learners exposure to natural speech, everyday interactions, and culturally rich situations that are often difficult to recreate in traditional classroom settings. The paper discusses how films can help learners notice differences in tone, levels of formality, politeness strategies, and culturally appropriate behavior. It also suggests practical ways teachers can integrate films into their lessons to make language learning more engaging and meaningful. Overall, the article argues that thoughtful use of feature films can play a valuable role in helping learners become more confident and context-aware communicators.
