Abstract
Abstract. This article provides a comparative analysis of the linguistic nature of
metaphor and metonymy phenomena in Uzbek and English. The mechanism of
formation of metaphorical and metonymic transfers, their national-cultural
foundations, semantic expansion features, and cognitive factors are analyzed. Despite
the fact that Uzbek and English languages belong to different language families, the
existence of commonalities and specific differences in their metaphorical thinking is
highlighted on a scientific-theoretical basis.
