Abstract
Abstract. This article analyzes the phatic function of communication in Uzbek
and English from a comparative-pragmatic perspective. Phatic communication is a set
of communicative tools that serve to establish social proximity between interlocutors,
maintain relationships, and ensure the smooth flow of the communication process. The
article compares phatic formulas in Uzbek and English, their socio-cultural
foundations, pragmatic strategies, and contexts of use.
